I Want to Share My Story Locally

I received the t-shirts I ordered. I had them made to wear to work and the gym and stuff so people will feel more comfortable approaching me about my weight loss. I will be able to help more people locally so I think I am going to put something similar on my car too. I guess you could say I'm taken it to the streets.

I need some ideas to help other's locally. I hope by sharing my message I can help others who feel too far gone know there is hope. What are some things I could do to get the word out?

  1. I know that you go to the gym. Has your gym asked you for a testimonial or anything? That would be like a win-win situation. It would be good advertising for the gym and good advertising for you!

  2. I think the gym idea is a good one, too. Would you be willing to do TV interviews?

  3. I have thought about the gym many times. I think you are right. I think there could be a big win-win opportunity.

TV would be awesome. How do I get that going?

  4. You know, local TV is always looking for "feel good" stories. I don't know what is more "feel good" that someone making a decision to change their life for the better. You could contact the paper or local stations. I don't really know how else you could do it, other than just getting your story out there. Don't some local TV websites have links to share "news stories"?

  5. You could speak to some local civic clubs, children's groups, chamber of commerce. Fit the message about health and weight loss (or never gain it in the first place) to the audience.

  8. I made a pledge to a local non-profit that treats childhood obesity and it got picked up by our newspaper. It is a great way to help myself and help others. You can check th article here:

  9. I think it rocks that you want to help people whilst you are climbing your own "mountain".

I have an idea ... if you do get on TV or in the newspaper (get a bit of publicity and people "know" you locally) maybe you could get Fitness or health Businesses to sponsor you in exchange for you advertising on your shirt, car and blog etc. For example a gym equip company could give you $ for lbs lost in a month (that you could donate to charity etc) in exchange for lots of free advertising around you and on the blog. Does that make any sense at all?

    Good luck !

  10. Your t-shirt is the shiznit! Lol. I'm loving the whole idea.

As for spreading the idea.. you could try your local gym and ask them if there's a way you think you could be of service to other people while you're climbing your own mountain.

Also, I've found out that YouTube is also an awesome place to start next to Twitter. You could reach more people over the entire world and that's pretty awesome :)

  11. I'm a little bit of crazy and a lot of adventurous. I just went to the website of a local restaurant, http://snapkitchen.com/, filled out the feedback form telling them my story. I now promote them via FB and Twitter and they feature my progress on their blog. Here's the first feature they posted about me: http://snapkitchen.wordpress.com/2011/06/14/in-the-left-corner-angel-austin/.

I'm working on a partnership with my surgeons office, too. Developing relationships with local business is really working well for me.

I wish you all the best. LOVE the t-shirts. You inspire me!
