IT'S FRIDAY (Video) & MY FIRST 5K

Sometimes you just have to be stupid for the fun of it. I am waaaay to excited for the weekend. I have been taking a lot of Saturdays off and it's been great. Tomorrow I am going to try my hand at my first 5K. Yes you read it correctly. I am going to be bounding my chunky butt around as fast as I can for 3.1 miles of pain.

I asked yesterday for advice on my first 5k and the answer was simple. Finish. I can do that. I will do that, even if I have to walk 70% of the time. What has my wife done to me. I am not a runner, I don't run because I want to. I only run if being chased by something that can potentially eat me or spiders.

Who am I? I am scared that this might become a thing.

  1. You got this bro! Just pretend a giant spider in chasing you because it wants to eat you! :)

I'm planning on doing a 5k in a couple of months.

I'm doing the Couch to 5k program to get ready for it. If you haven't heard about it, here is their site: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I know it's a little late for tomorrow, but could be of use for the future!

    Good luck!

  2. I'm planning on running my first 5k near the end of August. I ran half of one last weekend, and was pretty impressed with myself. You have come so far... why stop now?

  3. You can do it!! Congratulations on this milestone of your first 5K! I'm currently searching for my first one in my area and as soon as my leg heals, I'll be out there to tackle it! Can't wait to hear your thoughts of it!!

  5. GIANT SPIDER!!! I think it may be harder to run with wet pants. I wish I had started a training program a month ago. I think I just have to do it no matter how slow I go.

  6. You can do it! I did my first 5k this past weekend and while I walked it & came in last, I felt such a sense of accomplishment. And now I am looking forward to my next one.

  7. You know that I have gotten way into running the past few years and I LOVE it. The best advice I've gotten is that if you run until you think you are going to throw up, then just throw up and keep going. And some 'real' advice is to not clench your fists while you run - just stay relaxed and keep your hands open. You will be great. So excited for you. Races are the best.

  9. You'll do awesome!! Just enjoy it and finish...and if you feel like you are going to stop you can do what I do: sing, "just keep running, running, running" like Dori from Finding Nemo or pretend like there is a MAC truck right behind you. I find both pretty motivating :)

  10. Good luck at your 5k! I did a bunch of 5 and 8k's when I was first losing weight - I walked them all but couldn't care less that I wasn't running - it was just so inspirational and motivational to be out there with other people who want to live the healthiest life possible. No matter how long it takes, you're still lapping everyone back home on the couch. Enjoy it!!!

  11. Good luck Mike. Be proud that you are able to participate. Think of your 150 lbs gone and know that you can do anything. Have fun.
